Banjarsari Village in Manyar District, Gresik, has been designated as the first Destana. Village officials and residents participated in disaster prevention and mitigation training.
"This is the first year. Around 158 villages should join the Destana program this year," said FX. Driatmiko Herlambang, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Gresik, on Monday (5/5/2025).
Commonly called Miko, he explained that Destana aims to prepare communities to stay alert during disasters. Residents are expected to independently conduct early mitigation before BPBD personnel arrive.
"The goal is for communities to handle initial emergency response and evacuation," he stated.
Miko noted Gresik faces multiple disaster risks, including annual floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes.
"Earthquakes frequently affect Tuban, impacting Bawean Island. Inland areas are also vulnerable—tremors were recently detected in Mengare, though with low magnitude," he concluded.
