Zhang was part of a diving tour group with 12 guests and 3 guides near Kakaban Island, home to the world's largest jellyfish lake—a popular tourist attraction.
As a PADI-certified Divemaster, Zhang was qualified to lead certified divers and assist instructors. However, after completing a 30-meter dive, he ignored his guide's warning and descended again to retrieve his dropped camera.
When Zhang failed to resurface, search teams later recovered his body at 87 meters. Authorities believe strong underwater currents pulled him deeper.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and online discussions in China, with many emphasizing the dangers of ignoring safety protocols.
