Probolinggo Intensifies Livestock Health Measures Ahead of Eid al-Adha

JatimVoice.com – Ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Probolinggo Regency Agriculture Office (Diperta) has intensified livestock disease prevention efforts by organizing a mobile animal health clinic (Posyandu Ternak) in Segaran Village, Tiris District, on Tuesday (29/4/2025).

The initiative aims to anticipate a surge in livestock transportation to other regions during the sacrificial season.

The program is part of the "Regent and Vice-Regent Work in the District" initiative, focusing on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccinations—a mandatory requirement for livestock transported outside the region.

A total of 98 animals were vaccinated, including 42 cows, 31 goats, and 25 sheep.

Drh. Nikolas Nuryulianto, Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at Diperta, explained that the program ensures livestock are healthy before being traded.

"Some regions require animal health certificates and proof of FMD vaccination. Through Posyandu Ternak, we aim to minimize distribution obstacles," he said on Tuesday (29/04/2025).

In addition to FMD, Diperta has proposed procuring Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) vaccines in case destination regions impose additional requirements.

LSD poses a significant economic risk to farmers if left unchecked.

Beyond vaccinations, the program includes Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) for farmers on maintaining animal health.

Diperta distributed free medications and vitamins while emphasizing that livestock require care akin to humans.

"We hope public awareness improves. Collaboration with local veterinarians is crucial to keeping livestock healthy and fit for transport," Nikolas added.
