Google selected three East Java schools as potential reference schools:
- SMAN 1 Gedangan in Sidoarjo
- SMAN 1 Balongpanggang in Gresik
- SMKN 12 Surabaya
These schools demonstrated strong digital readiness and effective use of technology in teaching. SMKN 12 Surabaya made history as Indonesia's first vocational school to earn this status.
Google's reference school program recognizes institutions with good digital infrastructure, skilled teachers, and strong technology integration. Selected schools receive direct coaching and become models for neighboring schools.
East Java Education Office Head Aries Agung Paewai said this achievement resulted from collaboration between schools, teachers, and local government. The province plans to expand digital learning to more schools through teacher training and technology adoption.
Governor Khofifah called the award both an honor and motivation: "Digitalization is now essential, not optional. This recognition pushes us to make East Java's education more inclusive and high-quality."
