JatimVoice.com – Probolinggo City Government is ramping up efforts to address persistent waste problems through its "Waste-Conscious Lifestyle Movement," launched during 2025 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) at Bestari Landfill on Wednesday (30/04/2025).

Mayor Dr. Aminuddin highlighted preventive measures like clearing flood-prone drainage systems, noting his personal involvement: "I've joined nearly 50 gutter clean-ups in my two months as mayor through our Gotku Resik program."
Recognizing behavioral change challenges, the mayor instructed the Environmental Agency (DLH) to provide ongoing community guidance. A mayoral circular now mandates civil servants to use recycled products – from laptop bags to office accessories – setting an example for residents.
DLH Head Retno Wandansari outlined complementary initiatives:
- Waste-to-gold savings programs
- Bottle exchange markets
- Exhibits by Adiwiyata schools and waste banks
- Plastic reduction pledges from businesses
The campaign also honors businesses limiting single-use plastics, reinforcing Probolinggo’s commitment to systemic change. "Every recycled item and cleaned drain brings us closer to a healthier city," Mayor Aminuddin asserted during the waste commitment declaration signing.
These multilayered efforts aim to transform Probolinggo’s waste management culture from temporary clean-ups to sustainable daily practices.
