Surabaya, East Java – Surabaya continues its nostalgic celebrations with the upcoming Surabaya Vaganza Parade 2025, set to enchant residents and visitors with "The Magical of Folktales" this Saturday (24/5/2025). The event, part of the city’s 732nd anniversary festivities, will bring beloved childhood stories to life through vibrant floats, costumed performances, and theatrical displays along the city’s main streets.

Following the success of the Rujak Uleg Festival 2025, which revived memories of the former Taman Hiburan Rakyat (THR), the parade marks the next chapter in Surabaya’s "staged nostalgia"—a deliberate effort to reconnect citizens with cultural heritage.
Folktales Take Over the Streets
Classic Indonesian tales like "Si Kancil Mencuri Timun" (The Clever Mouse Deer), "Keong Mas" (Golden Snail), and "Jaka Tarub" will share the spotlight with global favorites such as Cinderella and Pinocchio. The parade aims to bridge generations, allowing children to discover timeless stories while adults relive their youth.
"Each year, we choose a different theme. This time, we’re celebrating folktales to reignite imagination and collective memory," said Hidayat Syah, Head of Surabaya’s Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office (Disbudporapar).
Route and Participation
With 43 groups—including government agencies, students, artists, and private companies—the procession will start at Tugu Pahlawan and end at Balai Pemuda, bypassing Jalan Kramat Gantung for a modified path along Jalan Pahlawan Kecil, Tunjungan, and Siola.
300 personnel from the Transportation Office and Traffic Police will ensure smooth operations. Post-parade, attendees can explore ongoing discounts at the Surabaya Shopping Festival, running until 31 May 2025.
"No need to wonder how to spend your weekend—Surabaya has prepared this parade for everyone to enjoy," Syah added.
