JatimVoice.com – Police in Banyuwangi have arrested JS, the father of a young local singer, F, on suspicion of involvement in online gambling. "We apprehended the suspect at his home in Kepundungan Village, Srono District," said Kompol Komang Yogi Arya Wiguna, Head of Satreskrim at Banyuwangi Police, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The arrest followed a tip from the public, which prompted further investigation and led to JS's detention.
During questioning, JS admitted to engaging in online mahjong gambling as a side activity while managing his grocery store for the past few months. "The type of gambling was mahjong, and the evidence seized includes a mobile phone containing records of conversations and transactions," Komang explained. While the total value of JS's transactions is still under investigation, police have confirmed that the case remains active.
JS faces charges under Article 303 of the Indonesian Penal Code for gambling offenses, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Authorities are also considering additional charges under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). "We are not ruling out the possibility of applying UU ITE charges," Komang added.
As a suspect, JS is now in custody and faces severe penalties. "The individual is facing up to 10 years in prison," Komang reiterated.
JS’s family, through their legal counsel, Charisma Adilaga, expressed their willingness to cooperate with the legal process. "We respect the legal proceedings conducted by Banyuwangi Police," Charisma stated on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
