JatimVoice.com – The operational period for the 1446H/2025M Hajj pilgrimage officially commenced Thursday (1/5/2025) at Surabaya's Hajj Embarkation Station, as the first three groups totaling 1,140 pilgrims from East Java arrived for Islam's fifth pillar.

The initial contingent comprised:
- Group 1: 363 pilgrims (Tulungagung Regency) + 13 (Surabaya City)
- Group 2: 372 (Tulungagung) + 1 (Kediri) + 3 (Surabaya)
- Group 3: 136 (Tulungagung) + 220 (Kediri City) + 24 (various regencies)
PPIH Chair Akhmad Sruji Bahtiar assured pilgrims: "You've arrived safely and in good health. Insha'Allah, you'll perform Hajj smoothly and return as mabrur pilgrims."
Authorities discovered tobacco violations in all groups:
- Group 1: 5 cartons
- Group 2: 4 packs
- Group 3: 1 carton
(Regulations permit maximum 200 cigarettes/2 cartons)
Seven pilgrims required medical referrals for minor conditions (anemia, hypertension, diabetes), while one second-trimester pregnant pilgrim was cleared for travel.
Group 1 will depart Juanda International Airport Friday (2/5) at 02:40 WIB, beginning Surabaya's total 36,845 pilgrim deployment from East Java, Bali, and NTT.
