Jember Homecraft Business Empowers Women Through Amigurumi Art

JatimVoice.com – In a modest home in Bumi Mangli Permai, Kaliwates, Jember, a creative enterprise is thriving. Anis Indrawati, the founder of Nisa Craft, has turned her passion for amigurumi—a Japanese art of crocheting stuffed dolls—into a flourishing home-based business that not only produces unique products but also uplifts the local economy.

Nisa Craft specializes in crafting adorable amigurumi dolls, ranging from animal to plant designs. “It started with making mask connectors during the pandemic, but demand grew, so I ventured into amigurumi,” Anis shared on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

Since its inception in 2021, the business has steadily grown, with Anis employing local housewives to assist in production. Affordable amigurumi keychains, priced between a few thousand rupiah depending on design and size, generate a monthly turnover of approximately 3 million rupiah. “Thankfully, it helps with household needs, and my neighbors are happy to earn extra income,” Anis said with a smile.

Beyond sales, Nisa Craft offers crocheting workshops for women and students, fostering skill development and empowerment. “I joined the course to learn how to make them myself. The teaching is patient and fun,” said Nada Shafwa, a workshop participant.

Nisa Craft’s products are now widely available at accessory shops, trinket stores, and even skincare outlets around Jember’s university areas. “The market is quite broad, especially among students who love cute keychains. We consign our products to shops near campuses for better visibility,” Anis explained.

Through creativity and community collaboration, Nisa Craft not only provides Anis with additional income but also empowers other women by offering skill-building opportunities and financial independence.
